Director Consumer and SME Banking

 

Charis is responsible for Consumer and SME Banking, one of the largest divisions of the Bank of Cyprus. 

In his role, Charis leads Consumer Banking, Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Banking, Alternative Delivery Channels and the Cards department. Consumer Banking is dedicated to retail customers and has branches in key locations in Cyprus. SME Banking provides financial services to small and medium enterprises, supports innovation and entrepreneurship and fosters economic growth and welfare in Cyprus. Both Consumer and SME Banking provide a full spectrum of financial products and services to hundreds of thousands of customers. The Alternative Delivery Channels (ADC) department includes internet banking, mobile banking, call center, ATM network and mobile P2P payments. ADC leads the bank into the new digital era by embracing the technological banking revolution, and provides alternatives to traditional banking. The Cards department (the only one cooperating with all AMEX, Visa, and MasterCard schemes) offers a full range of cards and constantly maintains a competitive advantage and a leading position in the Cyprus cards market.

Before being appointed in this role in 2009, Charis held a number of strategically important positions in the Bank of Cyprus Group, serving as Limassol Regional Manager, Regional Manager Corporate Banking, Credit Risk Manager, Corporate Business Development Manager, Manager Corporate Banking, and Credit Officer.

Prior to joining the Bank of Cyprus Group, Charis spent two years in Boston and Tokyo as a Civil Engineer Consultant.

Charis holds a Doctorate of Philosophy and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States, as well as a Diploma in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University in Greece.

He is Chairman of the Board of IDEA and a Member of the Board of Directors of EuroLife, the Board of Directors of General Insurance of Cyprus and the Board of Directors of the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre.
