Part of the LEAF program that engages kids to care about the environment

An event was held at Eurolife's main offices in Nicosia to hand out awards for novel team games and sports in the forest that were created by kids. The awards were part of the LEAF (Learning About Ecosystems and Forests) program that's been operating in Cypriot schools for more than 20 years, a collaboration of Eurolife with the CYMEPA NGO, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment.

Part of Eurolife's Corporate Social Responsibility, the LEAF program encourages activities that help pupils attain maturity in environmental awareness, regardless of age, knowledge or prior experience. Through this program, Eurolife takes part in the broader drive to inform, raise awareness about and protect the forests - starting from kindergartens and primary schools.

In addition, each year the program features a competition. This year the kids had to propose a novel team game or sport that can be played in the forest using materials from the forest. Participants had to submit a brief description (300 words or less) of the game/sport, and also visually record the game/sport that will later be developed into a short film not more than three minutes long.

The first prize went to Paidikorama Kindergarten (Larnaca), while the Evangelismos Special School and the 6th Primary School of Lakatamia (Ayios Panteleimonas) got honourable mentions.
