Learning about Forests

Cooperation with NGO Cymepa

The vision of the international “Learning about Forests” (LEAF) program is to achieve a higher level of awareness, knowledge and action on the important role that forests play on the sustainability of our planet. The program deals with the impact of forests on humans, including the cultural, ecological, economic and social aspects.

The program encourages activities that can help students achieve a higher degree of environmental and sustainable maturity, regardless of their age, level of knowledge and previous experiences.

Each involved class will undertake three obligations:

  1. To visit a forest or Training/Information Center or nature study trail.
  2. To plant trees or create a seedbed.
  3. To work on one of the topics proposed by the International Coordinating Office which is based in Copenhagen.

A Leaf Collage Competition may optionally be held; the prize will be a one-night forest stay for the entire class, sponsored by EuroLife.

The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) is the coordinator of the “Learning about Forests” program at a global level, while Cymepa is the National Operator of all its programs. Training programs are conducted in full cooperation with officials of the Ministry of Education and Culture, to whom we would like to extend our great appreciation. We also express our gratitude to teachers and the children of all classes who are enthusiastic participants to the program.
